Listings below are short-term assignments, projects, or events organized by Volunteer Hollywood. The listing(s) below require a few hours of commitment.

    

Hollywood Beach Cleanups: Keep Broward Beautiful!

Join us in keeping Hollywood’s beach clean! Groups are welcome to join us! Volunteers are needed to collect litter along the beach. Before the beach clean-up, Keep Broward Beautiful will provide safety tips and beach clean-up procedures.

Department: Public Works 

Date: Saturdays, January 14th, February 11th, March 10th, April 14th, May 12th, June 9th, July 14th, August 11th, September 8th, October 13th, November 17th, & December 8th

Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm (noon)

Number of Volunteers: 100 volunteers per project

Age Requirement: At least 8 years old or older

GROUP OPPORTUNITIES:

Listings below are short-term projects organized by Volunteer Hollywood. A great way to perform community service, these projects requires group commitment.

 

Door Hanger Distribution: Great Neighborhoods Challenge

Promote the Great Neighborhoods Challenge by hanging door hangers in designated neighborhoods, such as Beverly Park, Washington Park, Park East, Hillcrest, 441 Corridor, Playland Estates, North Central, and Royal Poinciana. The Great Neighborhoods Challenge is a collaborative effort between the City, residents, business owners, and organizations to improve the appearance of Hollywood neighborhoods. Volunteers are needed to spread the word by walking the streets of assigned neighborhoods to hang door hangers on each door. An easy project, this is an ideal project for most groups, such as scouts, school clubs, youth organizations, or churches. A map of the assigned neighborhood, door hangers, and volunteer sign-in sheet will be provided to the group leader.

Date: Any day convenient to the group

Time Frame: Any time convenient to the group

Deadline to Complete Project:  Now until March 31, 2012

Volunteer Age Requirement: At least 8 years of age or older

Number of Volunteers Needed Per Project: As many volunteers as possible

 

Adopt-A-House Projects

Paint the exterior walls or clean the yard in an Adopt-A-House project. Adopt-A-House is a housing renovation project, which uses volunteers to do practical and feasible restorations on one-story single-family homes.

Volunteer Hollywood has 5 homes waiting to be completed during the upcoming year. Labor intensive, Adopt-A-House is a great project for adult groups.

Department: Community Development

Date: Preferably one day during the week by April 1st (Monday – Friday)

Deadline to Complete Projects: Now until April 1, 2012

Time Frame: 9:00am – 2:00pm (usually takes 5 hours)

Volunteer Age Requirement: At least 14 years of age or older

Number of Volunteers Needed Per Project: 10 – 15 volunteers

 

LONG-TERM OPPORTUNITIES:

Volunteer Description: Volunteer will assist with filing and archiving files.

 

Department: Public Services/Facility Maintenance, Division
Days: Monday – Friday (days flexible)

Time: 8:00am to 5:00pm (hours flexible)

Volunteer Description: Volunteer will assist by entering data into a database. Volunteer must be able to type and proficient with computers.

 

COLLEGE STUDENTS ONLY

Students with particular interest in listed departments should submit a letter of interest and a copy of their resume by Friday, July 1st. Students will be required to complete all paperwork required by the City of Hollywood’s Volunteer Program, which includes a thorough background investigation prior to start.

Days: Monday – Friday (days flexible)

Time: 8:00am to 5:00pm (hours flexible – at least 20 hours a week)

Volunteer Description: The department is offering semester long internship opportunities to university level students who have completed at least two years of course work in finance, public administration, real estate development or related disciplines. Students will be asked to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per month. This internship offers the opportunity to gain practical municipal government experience in the following areas: neighborhood and demographic data collection and analysis; financial data management and analysis; land use zoning and property inventory research; regulatory and policy research (federal, state and local); project planning; preparation of presentation materials; and preparation of reports.

Department: Public Affairs & Marketing, Office
Position:
Intern
Days: Monday – Friday (days flexible)

Time: 8:00am to 5:00pm (hours flexible)

Volunteer Description: The Office is offering an internship opportunity to university level students who have completed at least two years of course work in public relations, marketing, or related.  Experience or familiarity with social media is needed as well as excellent writing skills. This internship offers the opportunity to gain experience in municipal government.  Some of the duties may include assisting with drafting flyers and articles for various publications.

Department: Parking & Governmental Affairs, Department
Position:
Intern
Days: Monday – Friday (days flexible)

Time: 8:00am to 5:00pm (hours flexible)

Volunteer Description: The Department is offering an internship opportunity to university level students who have completed at least two years of course work in environmental studies, green building, sustainability, architecture, and engineering or related.  This internship offers the opportunity to gain municipal government experience.  The major function is assisting with researching and gathering necessary information for the City’s achievement of a Green City designation through Florida’s Green Building Coalition.

Requirement: At least 18 years old or older, enrolled in a college or university

   

Department: Planning & Development Services, Department
Position:
Intern
Days: Monday – Friday (days flexible)

Time: 8:00am to 5:00pm (hours flexible)

Volunteer Description: The Department is offering an internship opportunity to university level students who have completed at least two years of course work in planning, public administration, architecture, landscape architecture or related.  This internship offers the opportunity to gain experience in municipal government.  The intern will assist and participate in a wide variety of planning processes requiring general knowledge of urban planning and zoning techniques.  The ability to conceptualize and draft planning reports is needed. 

Requirement: At least 18 years old or older, enrolled in a college or university

 

DISASTER VOLUNTEER REGISTRY:

Hurricane season is here! To be better prepared for any disaster, the City of Hollywood needs interested and capable volunteers or groups, over the age of 18 years old, to sign up for our Disaster Volunteer Registry.

 

The Disaster Volunteer Registry is a database with available information on each volunteer or group’s contact information and listed skills.  The registry helps provide a timely, effective response to disasters and ensures the appropriate match of skills and abilities with the needs of the emergency situation. It will allow Hollywood to efficiently coordinate central recruitment and deployment of disaster volunteers.

Support the center by volunteering as a transcriber, editor, proofreader, or abstractor. Volunteers are required to volunteer at least once a week for a minimum of 3 hours. A mandatory training will provided.

Volunteers Needed for Fundraising

Community Enhancement Collaboration, Inc. (CEC)

Aid the Community Enhancement Collaboration (CEC) with food concession fundraising at Sun Life Stadium, home stadium of the Florida Marlines, Miami Dolphins, and University of Miami Hurricanes. Proceeds for the food concession sales will benefit programs that will enhance the quality of life in the Washington Park area. Volunteers are needed to assist CEC with setting up, conducting inventory, selling food and drinks, and cleaning up. Student volunteers will receive community service hours for volunteering.

Age Requirement:  16 years old or over
