Cash for Trash: Washington Park

Give a hand to Washington Park by beautifying its neighborhood through trash collection. Volunteers will receive free t-shirts to wear during the project. With each trash bag collected, the neighborhood association earns $5 towards its association fund.

Listen to Children (LTC) Program

Mental Health Association

Volunteer your time in the Listen to Children, a mentoring program, in which volunteer Listeners serve as non-judgmental adult friends to elementary school children engaging them in play and conversation at weekly one-on-one meetings. This is not an academic tutoring program.

Dates of Training:  July Training = Thurs., 7/10, and Wed., 7/16, 2008, 9am to 3:30pm & August Training = Tues., 8/26, and Thurs, 8/28, 2008, 9am to 3:30pm

Training Time: 9:00am to 3:30pm

Time Commitment: Listener volunteers spend thirty minutes each week with each child one-on-one on a consistent basis during the school year, preferably seeing three or four children (1.5 to 2 hours/wk) on the day and time of their choice.

Requirement: Listeners must attend two days of training, have a Security Background Check done through the School Board of Broward County, and be able to commit to see the children each week.

Location: Volunteering takes place in Hollywood elementary schools, however, Listeners cannot volunteer at schools where their children/grandchildren attend.

Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction

Greater Hollywood Jaycees

Volunteers will escort guests to their seats, run errands during the event, and help clean-up. The funds raised at the event will be used for the Jaycee’s Back-to-School Shopping Spree for our local youth.

Foster Grandparents Program

Senior Volunteer Services

Senior Volunteer Services is looking for seniors, 60 and over, to help mentor and tutor children in Hollywood, part of the Foster Grandparents Program. Senior volunteers who participate in the program receive $2.65 per hour and 44¢ per mile (for usage of personal vehicle).

Time Commitment: Minimum of 15 hours or more

Location: There are seven sites located throughout Hollywood.

Family of Humanity, Inc.

Lend a hand to this agency in a variety of volunteer positions. They are in need of the following volunteers: board members, story time readers, artists, fundraising committee members, and career speakers.

Age Requirement:   21 years old or over

Time Commitment: One year minimum
